New Page Added: Kudos

Not trying to blow my own horn, or anything, but I compiled a number of quotes that some of my fellow bloggers and fans have had to say about my work here on the blog and about my photography as well.

You can check out what they have to say over on a new page called “Photo Quotesin my “About” section. It is, by no means, a complete listing and I’m sure I’ll add to it as we go.

Thank you to everyone who has shared such amazing words of encouragement and support over the years! I truly appreciate it and it keeps me going – especially when I fall into a rut that I don’t think I can get out of.

Using Textures with Photos

Awhile back I used a photo texture to add a little extra dimension of interest to a series of photos I had been working on and one of my readers asked for a little insight into how to use textures. So, here we go!

From the Archives

To close out the week, I thought I would take a look back at some posts from the past and see what I’ve done, and where I’ve gone since the early days of this blog.

Weekend Photo Shoot

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of setting up in my living room to shoot some photos of my beautiful wife Kim, her friend Tisha and her husband Steve, and even get a new headshot taken – by Kim.

Find out more about the setup I used and check out a selection from the shoot after the jump…

No-Blog Tuesday

Last night, I spent the evening in my “studio” working on a project to be released sometime in the next few days. So, I decided to let this one slide.

I still would like to take the opportunity, however, to thank our guest blogger, Kevin Halliburton, for sharing his insights into visual storytelling in yesterday’s post. There is certainly a lot to think about there and I think we can all take something away from it to make our images better and more engaging for our audiences. Thanks Kevin!

Bringing Some Work Home

As some of you may know, by day I am a web designer for a sporting goods company putting together marketing emails, maintaining the look and feel of the website, and keeping an eye on the SEO initiatives we have going.

Coming up later this week we are launching a new sport line. We are mainly a wrestling and volleyball supply retailer, with some running, but we’re jumping into the realm of field sports (lacrosse, field hockey, and soccer) and it has been my job to compile product images, build pages and make sure the whole section is ready to go.

Hopes & Dreams for 2010

*NOTE: Apparently, when you don’t set the publish time when you thought you did, the post won’t appear when you planned… I wrote this one for yesterday’s post and messed it up. So I hope you enjoy it today!

Now that we’re into the new year we are starting to see how all the resolutions and good intentions are either starting to slip already or, at the very least, the reality is sinking in about whether or not you can follow through.

I never really make resolutions with the new year. I tend to set goals for myself, things to work towards, rather than deciding to do things that I’m not really all that committed to.

Happy New Year!

Here’s to a creatively charged 2010 full of inspiration and new opportunities for learning and growth in all areas of life!

Happy New Year!

Special Thanks to You All!

For my final post of the year, I’d like to take a moment to express my deepest thanks to some really great people who have made 2009 such an awesome year here at Jason D. Moore Photography.

Best Shots of 2009: A Year in Review

As the old year passes I like to take a few minutes and review my work from the previous 12 months.

I know I took more bad shots than good but, as I’ve been told, a professional is someone who knows which photos to leave out of their portfolio. I also tend to believe that any artist worth anything is never satisfied with their work. It is never finished, simply abandoned.

So as we round out the year, rather than showing you some great shots, here is a collection of my photos that sucked the least. (Just kidding…)

Take a look through my Best Photos of 2009 gallery and let me know which are your favorites!

Site Stats from 2009

I know we still have a few days left in the year but I’m a stats junkie (for my site only) and thought I would share some of the interesting numbers from the year.

So, if you could care less about stats, please read some of my older posts to make up for it. If you’re at all interested, read on after the jump.

Another Look at a 2009 Favorite

Taking it to the Next Level

I have recently begun talks with a popular web design site to be one of their contributing writers – on an article by article basis. I am very excited about this new opportunity and the challenges it brings.

I am already formulating my first article based on taking something ordinary and transforming it into something unique. I will be doing a start-to-finish workflow, from concept to final image, using my mini-planet tutorial as the basis.

There are many instances when you have a photo and you’re just unimpressed. Not because it isn’t a well-composed, evenly exposed, sharp image, but because it looks like everything else you’ve shot. That’s exactly when you need to do something drastic and jump into the surreal.

Also, coming down the pike with this new venture, I will be writing an article on search engine optimization (SEO) that all you bloggers and website owners out there will want to read so you can make your sites more search-engine-friendly and get more of the traffic you desperately want, and need to keep new customers coming in.

In my final article of my initial series with them, I’ll present an in-depth review of a piece of digital asset management (DAM) software that helps keep all of your files and file associations in order for speedier searching and a more efficient workflow.

When I’m done writing the first article and it is ready to go live, I will certainly share some excerpts here and link you to the entire article for you to enjoy.

Back to Our Regularly Scheduled Program

After a brief hiatus I am now back to my normal schedule of daily posts between now and Christmas.

Before I get too far, I want to remind you all that the next Points of View Photo Project will be posted this Friday. If you would like to participate, and it’s open to everyone, please head over and grab the source image for this week. All you have to do is download it, process it, and send it back to me at pov@jasondmoore.com by Thursday at around 8pm (Eastern) so I can include it in the gallery with the other contributors from across the country and around the world.

Now that I’ve got that out of the way… (more…)

We’re Having a Boy!

Baby Liam Moore

Today, Kim and I found out that we are 20 weeks and 5 days along as we prepare for the arrival of our son Liam in April! The ultrasound showed good development of all of his organs and we heard another strong heartbeat as he squirmed around trying to hide from the tech.

We were both, honestly, not hoping for a boy or a girl specifically, just for a healthy baby. We are so excited for this new little guy to come out and see us, even though he’s already been a member of the family for a few months now. I really can’t wait but I’ll settle for being able to feel him kicking soon.

December 2009 Desktop Wallpaper Calendar

December 2009 Photo Desktop Wallpaper Calendar

Each month I publish a new photographic desktop wallpaper featuring one of my photos as well as a custom calendar with holidays and other important dates listed. The image for the December  2009 Desktop Calendar was taken looking up from beneath the Eiffel Tower in Paris during the summer of 2008. I have to credit my amazing wife, Kim, for the idea.

Click on one of the links below to download yours today so you’ll be ready for December!

*If your screen resolution is not displayed, please leave a comment and I’ll be sure to include it next time!

Also, if you would like to sponsor the monthly desktop calendars to get your name/brand in front of readers on a daily basis, or if you would like to partner with us on one of our other regular series, projects, or to advertise on this site, please visit our “Become a Sponsor” page today to learn how!

Happy Thanksgiving!

To everyone celebrating the holiday today, on behalf of Kim and myself, I’d like to wish you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving!

And, on a personal note, I’d like to extend my deepest thanks to all of you for being such loyal and supportive readers over the years, no matter how long you’ve been coming. I appreciate your input, participation, and willingness to put up with my antics on a regular basis. It humbles me every time I think about it…

Thank You!

Blogging Break of Sorts

As the holiday season is upon us and the dawn of the new year with new opportunities and new beginnings is on the horizon I feel like I need to take a little time to refocus and plan for the future.

Over the next week and a half or so there will be some limited blogging as I devote the time I would normally spend developing content to other things that will help with the long-term goals I have set. (more…)

So, They Think I Can Teach Photoshop!

So, You Think You Can Teach Photoshop?!That’s right! I received official word that I was selected as one of the Honorable Mention winners in the NAPP So, You Think You Can Teach Photoshop?! contest! And I would I like to take this opportunity to thank the judges for this honor and opportunity.

Though it would’ve been awesome to claim the top slot and have the opportunity to teach a live session at Photoshop World in March as well as on their podcasts, I am truly humbled that I am ranked along with some other very talented Photoshop instructors. (more…)

onOne PhotoFrame 4

onOne PhotoFrame 4

Awhile back I received a copy of PhotoFrame 4 as part of the Plug-ins Suite from onOne Software. I hadn’t had time to use it all that much but playing around with textures as I did last week really inspired me to take it for a spin.

Using Textures – Another Look at Frosty Leaves

As I was initially processing the series from yesterday, I tried to capture the colors and tones I saw that morning while representing my personal style and the somewhat desaturated look I’ve come to really enjoy.

After I got what I was looking for, I decided to play a little bit. To give your images a totally new look and to give your creativity a jolt, you might want to consider applying textures to your photos.

What I did below was take the original set and place an image of stained and worn paper on the top of my layers panel. Then, all I did was  play with blend modes. Because the paper texture I used was a yellowish color with dark areas of random stains and spots it gave the underlying image a warmer tone and an aged look very easily and quite effectively. Frosty Leaves at Home

I’m sure this was a busy weekend for everyone, I know it was for me. If you would still like to participate in the next Points of View Photo Project, I’ve decided to reschedule it for this coming Friday instead.

If you’re new to the project, simply click on the link above, download the photo and edit it to your heart’s content. When you’re done, email your version of it to me at pov@jasondmoore.com by Wednesday night and it will be included in a gallery of everyone’s interpretation of the common source image.

Also, I would like to publicly thank Troy Breidenbach, president of IGT America and sponsor of the October Photo Contest, (more…)
