“Late-Blog” Friday

Life, Personal, Travel, Work No Comments »

My apologies for leaving everyone hanging today. It’s been a crazy couple of days on the work front - more to come on that next week.

We are on the road this weekend at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore providing video for the Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church in this region of the US.

We got up at around 4:30am Thursday - after only about 2 hours of sleep - and were on the road for about 8 hours. Once we got here, we were busy flying equipment, climbing catwalks, and setting up for an additional 13 hours… There really is nothing like pulling up a 1-ton chain hoist 30 feet to a hot, dusty catwalk with a rope while the event’s organist rehearses the same hymns at full volume for a few hours. Needless to say, my body hates me right now.

Sleep became the top priority and I didn’t have time to prepare today’s edition of Geographic Composition - let alone shoot anything for it. But fear not, I will hopefully be receiving the rest of the submissions by tomorrow (hint, hint) and I’ll put it together for posting on Monday and delay the next P&P Weekly a day or two so I have a chance to recover a little when I get home Sunday night.

Thanks for the really nice comments from my Paris photos! They were nice to read when I got back to the hotel after another long day.

In the meantime, have a great weekend and I’ll be back to a more regular schedule next week!

More From Paris

I’m on the road for the rest of the week so I thought I’d post a few more from Paris.

Versailles and the Louvre

Of course we had to spend a day at Versailles and the Louvre or our trip to Paris wouldn’t be complete. From the Louvre - in addition to the close up of an Egyptian sarcophagus I posted the other day - our favorites were definitely the Mona Lisa (I thought the reflections in the bottom were kind of interesting, though I may remove them later on), Venus de Milo, and our #1 favorite Winged Victory of Samothrace.

Versailles was amazing too. Kim and I kept looking at each other and asking ourselves why anyone would need so much space/stuff. But it was all really cool to see. As we were leaving the clouds were moving in for a pretty heavy, but short-lived rain and I caught a glimpse of the statue of the woman holding the caduceus and grabbed a shot, thinking of my mom (a nurse), and it’s actually one of my favorites with how the clouds and shadows really work for me. The final image at the bottom… I have no idea what it is but thought it looked interesting. I don’t think there was a description nearby and if there was it would’ve been in French. So if anyone knows what this thing is, let me know.

More to come…

Sennelier and Eiffel Tower

A few months ago as Kim and I were figuring out what we wanted to do while in Paris we saw an episode of Art and the City on Ovation. There, we were told of this little art supply shop called Sennelier where artists such as Cézanne, Gauguin, Soutine, Modigliani, Kandinsky, Bonnard, Picasso, Cocteau and others came to find just the right colors for their master works. So, of course, we just had to go!

The man who runs the place caught on to the fact that we were Americans and started chatting with us about where we’re from and the like. Turns out, he’s been to Syracuse and has friends at Golden Artist Colors from here in Upstate NY - whose products he sells in the store.

The other shots are both of and from the Eiffel Tower - if that wasn’t already obvious…
