Starting Monday

Personal, Work 6 Comments »

I went in earlier this week to meet with my new bosses to go over some of the details of my employment and starting on Monday morning I will be the new Web Graphics Designer for Southern Tier Athletics/Worldwide Sport Supply. I will be designing graphic elements for the websites, handling weekly email blasts to customers, and helping with some of the on-site product photography for their online and physical catalogs.

Worldwide Sports Suppy is the #1 wrestling gear supplier and is poised to become the #1 supplier of volleyball gear in the US within the next year. They provide screen printing for uniforms and apparel and are a growing presence in the running market.

It looks like it’s going to be a fun place to work that is both challenging and rewarding. I’m really looking forward to starting!

Just a little something I’ve been working on.

We’re Moving!

Kim is now the Art Teacher at Brookside Elementary School (K-5) in the Susquehanna Valley Central School District just south of Binghamton, NY!!! I am SO proud of her and I know she’s going to be great!

We’re now in the process of looking for apartments and, since I am going to be finishing at my current job at the end of August too, I can now focus my search a little more.

Personal Work News

For those who don’t know, I work for/with my dad at Moore Multimedia, Inc. in Liverpool, NY. We provide audio/video support for live events of all sizes, produce promotional and capital campaign videos for a number of not-for-profit and religious organizations, design websites, offer training, and provide many other services to help our clients communicate their message more effectively.

Back in March, my dad and I sat down to have a heart-to-heart about the future of the company. It’s a very expensive business to be in to keep up with the ever-changing needs of clients and latest technologies. With the exception of some event work here and there when we brought in my brother - who used to work with us full-time - it’s been mainly a two-man show for the past few years.

In the end, we came to the decision that we would shut down as of the end of August.

My dad is going to continue pursuing his professional writing career and self-produce audiobooks and short stories, maybe do some screenwriting. My brother is buying off a chunk of the sound equipment to start his own live sound services company, “The SoundWorx.”

As for me, I am currently searching for the right fit! This is the first time since college that I’ve had to look for a job and I haven’t really been through the traditional application/interview process before. So it’s all a bit unnerving for me. Also, since graduating, Kim is looking for open art teacher positions right now. It’s freeing and exciting to know that we can really go anywhere (hopefully staying at least in the Northeast, if not in NY) but it’s stressful trying to figure out what’s next on both fronts at the same time.

As you may recall, I began setting up my online portfolio back in March and April and now have my updated resume there as well. I really couldn’t say anything about it then because we were waiting until we fulfilled some of our outstanding agreements before going public. But now that our conference season is over we’re working on transitioning our web hosing clients to a new provider, my brother’s new company is in talks to take over some of our live sound work, and word is being spread about our closure.

If any of you know of any positions or have any ideas that may help point me in a direction I may not have considered, please let me know either through the comments or email.

“Late-Blog” Friday

My apologies for leaving everyone hanging today. It’s been a crazy couple of days on the work front - more to come on that next week.

We are on the road this weekend at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore providing video for the Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church in this region of the US.

We got up at around 4:30am Thursday - after only about 2 hours of sleep - and were on the road for about 8 hours. Once we got here, we were busy flying equipment, climbing catwalks, and setting up for an additional 13 hours… There really is nothing like pulling up a 1-ton chain hoist 30 feet to a hot, dusty catwalk with a rope while the event’s organist rehearses the same hymns at full volume for a few hours. Needless to say, my body hates me right now.

Sleep became the top priority and I didn’t have time to prepare today’s edition of Geographic Composition - let alone shoot anything for it. But fear not, I will hopefully be receiving the rest of the submissions by tomorrow (hint, hint) and I’ll put it together for posting on Monday and delay the next P&P Weekly a day or two so I have a chance to recover a little when I get home Sunday night.

Thanks for the really nice comments from my Paris photos! They were nice to read when I got back to the hotel after another long day.

In the meantime, have a great weekend and I’ll be back to a more regular schedule next week!
