Cool FREE Photo Textures
My friend from work, illustrator Eric Maruscak, turned me on to this site awhile back as an excellent source for free photographic textures.
The Results Are In: November Camera Phone Photo Contest!

It’s that time once again when we celebrate the members of our digital photography community who have shared their photos as part of our monthly photo contest.
This month, I decided to do something a little different based on a suggestion from my friend, illustrator Eric Maruscak, and see what kind of entries we would get of shots taken with a camera phone. Unless you’re someone like Chase Jarvis, it can be a little tough to come up with a decent shot from your phone. That being said, though, each and every one of the entries into the November Photo Contest really stands up and takes a step beyond a typical camera phone snapshot.
November Photo Contest Reminder
That’s right! We’re already over halfway through the month and the November Photo Contest only has a couple of weeks left!
Regulars will know that there is usually no theme for my monthly photo contests but this month I thought it would be fun to see what you could do with your camera phones (thanks to a suggestion from my friend, Illustrator Eric Maruscak). You can process the photos as much as you like, as always, but it should originate from a phone. (more…)
The Results Are In: October Photo Contest!
It’s that time once again to announce the winner of the latest Monthly Photo Contest!
As it is every month, I am both excited at the number of entries and daunted by the many excellent images submitted. I am also pretty stoked by this month’s prize. The lucky winner is going to be receiving one of their images sublimated on a 16″x20″ piece of metal from our friends over at IGT America. I have one, myself, and it is not only an amazing process, it is also a very unique way of presenting your work.
So, without further ado, the winner of the sublimated photo print is: (more…)
Illustrator Eric Maruscak at it Again!
Once again, my friend, illustrator Eric Maruscak of PepperInk.com, was in NYC last weekend for the Big Apple Comic Con to create a 9′x14′ Spider-Man and Batman chalk mural.
As I say every time I mention Eric here, I am amazed at his ability to work on such a large scale to create such compelling pieces as a chalk artist. His love for the artistry behind comic books and his admiration for the original artists really shines through and it’s a pleasure to follow everything he’s been up to. And it’s great to hear the stories first-hand and to watch him run around the office as he acts out some of the more interesting encounters he has – namely, the incident with actor Thomas Jane.
If you’d like to follow along with what Eric is up to, be sure to check out all that he has up on his blog www.pepperink.com and follow him on Twitter @PepperInk.
“No-Blog” Tuesday
After noticing last night that I inadvertently scheduled yesterday’s post for the wrong day it is now up for your viewing pleasure. It’s some eye-candy from my friend, illustrator Eric Maruscak of Pepper Ink.
In light of that, and some side work I’ve been doing for my dad that has kept me busy lately, I am declaring this a “No-Blog Tuesday”! (Of course, by posting this, it’s making it a “There-Actually-Is-A-Blog-Post Tuesday”, but you get what I’m saying.)
Be sure to come back tomorrow for some more Photoshop & Photography goodness!
The Latest from Eric Maruscak
I’ve written before about my friend and co-worker, Illustrator Eric Maruscak of Pepper Ink. A couple of weeks ago he was in Chicago for his latest gig as the chalk artist for the 2009 Chicago Comic Con.
His task was to once again create a large scale chalk mural on paper for the event. And, once again, he delivered in a huge way! This time his subject was from the comic book Ultimate Avengers and was the program cover for the convention. Click on the image for a complete description of the event and to see the work in progress – as well as some other images from the event.
We always poke at Eric at work that he spends so much time “coloring on the floor” and “copying other artists work” but the truth is, Eric is an amazing artist and illustrator in his own right and the scale and detail he puts into these performance pieces is not only fun to watch but inspiring as well.
Check out more of Eric’s growing collection of illustration, cartooning, digital painting, and chalk art at www.pepperink.com.
Enjoy!
