It’s that time again to announce the winner of our Monthly Photo Contest here at Jason D. Moore Photography! There were a lot of excellent photos entered this month and I have definitely seen some growth in the work coming from many of the regular submitters this time around. Nice work!
I have enlisted the help of the January winner, Chris Stern to help in the judging this month – as we will do from here on out with the winner serving as guest judge for the following month. Thank you Chris!

The Results Are In: November Camera Phone Photo Contest!

It’s that time once again when we celebrate the members of our digital photography community who have shared their photos as part of our monthly photo contest.
This month, I decided to do something a little different based on a suggestion from my friend, illustrator Eric Maruscak, and see what kind of entries we would get of shots taken with a camera phone. Unless you’re someone like Chase Jarvis, it can be a little tough to come up with a decent shot from your phone. That being said, though, each and every one of the entries into the November Photo Contest really stands up and takes a step beyond a typical camera phone snapshot.
December 2009 Desktop Wallpaper Calendar

Each month I publish a new photographic desktop wallpaper featuring one of my photos as well as a custom calendar with holidays and other important dates listed. The image for the December 2009 Desktop Calendar was taken looking up from beneath the Eiffel Tower in Paris during the summer of 2008. I have to credit my amazing wife, Kim, for the idea.

November Photo Contest Reminder
That’s right! We’re already over halfway through the month and the November Photo Contest only has a couple of weeks left!
Regulars will know that there is usually no theme for my monthly photo contests but this month I thought it would be fun to see what you could do with your camera phones (thanks to a suggestion from my friend, Illustrator Eric Maruscak). You can process the photos as much as you like, as always, but it should originate from a phone. (more…)
The Results Are In: October Photo Contest!
It’s that time once again to announce the winner of the latest Monthly Photo Contest!
As it is every month, I am both excited at the number of entries and daunted by the many excellent images submitted. I am also pretty stoked by this month’s prize. The lucky winner is going to be receiving one of their images sublimated on a 16″x20″ piece of metal from our friends over at IGT America. I have one, myself, and it is not only an amazing process, it is also a very unique way of presenting your work.
So, without further ado, the winner of the sublimated photo print is: (more…)

Each month I will publish a new photographic desktop wallpaper featuring one of my photos as well as a custom calendar with holidays and other important dates listed. The image for the October 2009 Desktop Calendar is a photo I took for Kim as her wedding present. It is her wedding ring set on one of her sketch books. I am using it here in honor of our 2nd Anniversary coming up later this month.

The Results Are In! July Photo Contest

Man, this month was a tough one! With the BIG Photo Contest only a couple of days away and so many great images in both – the most from any contest I’ve done to date, thanks! – I’ve had a difficult run of it this week as I’ve made my selections.
So, without further ado, the winner of a free 16×24 Gallery Wrap from Mpix is:
“under-pass-age” by googlit
Congratulations! Please forgive me for foregoing the critique on this one, it’s been a long week of going through images and there was a lot of thought that went into the entire process. Let me just say that I really enjoy the muted tones, the contrast, and the excellent textures throughout. For me, this is an example of HDR done really well. It’s not over the top. All around a great image.
As always, there were a number of shots that deserve mentioning because of their artfulness and the stories that they tell. In no particular order:
Nice work to everyone who submitted! Details about the August contest will be announced next week.
On the 4th: June 2009

Welcome to another installment of the “On the 4th” monthly photo project hosted by Jason D. Moore Photography (brought to you in part by User 40.0).
The purpose of this project is to compile a collection of images taken on the 4th of each month providing a unique perspective of the similarities and differences of our unique and varied experiences on a given day throughout the year from our scattered locations around the country and across the globe.
This month we feature shots from 3 different countries including Belgium, Spain and the USA giving us a glimpse of life “On the 4th” around our world.
View the gallery of photos taken on the 4th of June.
The project will only get more interesting and more comprehensive with more contributors. If you took a photo this past Saturday, the 4th, send it to me by the 20th for inclusion in this new and exciting project!
Thank you to all of those who have already submitted images and I hope to see even more next time!
Enjoy!
The “On the 4th” Monthly Photo Project is sponsored in part by the blog User 40.0. Please take a minute to stop over and see some of the great things they are doing over there!

The Results Are In: June Photo Contest!

For the latest monthly photo contest, as with every month’s contest, I was presented with a number of excellent entries to choose from. Thank you to everyone who sent in your shots and for making my job so tough.
So, without further ado, the winner of an 8×10 of one of my shots (a $50 value) is:
“Rare Indeed” by mreid1166
What I really liked about this shot has the desaturated, high contrast look and the excellent depth of field. The choice of a square crop draws further attention to the shot and just the right amount of vignetting to keep your eyes in the frame. I really enjoy the reflection of the subject in the metal within the right-hand third and the grungy yet tack sharp words in the top third. I like all of the repeating patterns of vertical and horizontal lines in the lattice work, the brick, the stripes in the awning and the subject’s shirt, they really add interest throughout. Very well done!
As always, there were a number of shots that deserve mention for their artistry and unique approaches to image making:
Thanks again to everyone who entered and I hope to see what you will be coming up with for next month’s photo contest.
Speaking of the July Photo Contest, we have an excellent prize in store. Mpix has generously agreed to provide a free 16×24 Gallery Wrap to the winner! So get shooting and enter your photos on our July Photo Contest Flickr Group for your chance to win.
Good Luck!
