That’s right, we are now in the final days of the January 2010 Photo Contest. It’s hard to believe that the first month of 2010 is almost over already and with it comes the end of our latest monthly photo contest.

That’s right! With the new year comes a new Photo Contest for you all!
For anyone new to the contests, basically all you have to do is head over to our January 2010 Photo Contest Flickr Group and submit up to 3 of your photos. At the beginning of February, I will select the winner.
So take the new camera you got for Christmas out of its box, install your brand new copy of Lightroom, process it using your new Photoshop plugins, and send in your shots today for your chance to win!

Well here we are, the last Monday of the year. I’m looking forward to the coming year and would like to get some input from you about what you’d like to see more of from the blog.
After the jump you’ll find some ideas of what we did in 2009 (both successfully and not so much) and some things that are already in the works for 2010 to get your mind working. So please, let me know!

As the year comes to a close, so does another one of my Monthly Photo Contests. Wow! Every time I open up a new monthly photo contest I am amazed at the quality of shots that are shared. Thank you all for making me work so hard at making my selections every month! You amaze me and, more importantly, inspire me to get out there and shoot!

Without further ado, this month’s winner is:
“pier 3 square” by M Greenbaum Photography
Marvin will be receiving a free item from my official Jason D. Moore Photography Apparel Store. Congratulations!
I was taken by this shot the first time I saw it. There are so many elements at work here that just come together and “make it” for me. First off, I like the square cropping. It makes it stand out and I like how it plays off of the repeating pattern of the supports for the pier. I like the play between contrasts here: cool vs. warm colors, solid vs. fluid, sharp focus vs. blur, angular vs. the organic nature of the clouds and surf. I like how the shot isn’t just of something pretty, it communicates something through the contrasts, through the fact that the structure is aged and weathered. It says something. Nicely done!

The October 2009 Photo Contest is now open! As always, you have until the 31st at midnight (Eastern) to submit up to 3 photos for the prize. And boy do we have a good one this month! Troy Breidenbach (the photographer who shot the football player image above) is the president of a company called IGT America that uses a really cool technology to “print” images onto metal to make signs, dry erase boards, etc.
Troy and one of his graphics guys are avid photographers and they thought it would be fun to try transferring their skills at making signs towards their own work, and the results are fantastic! The process is called “sublimation” and here’s what they do:
1.) we get your image electronically and make sure the color space matches our profile (and convert it if not)
2.) the image is printed on 64” ink jet printers with a special ink and paper
the paper allows the ink to be “transferred” to the metal later
3.) the paper is married to the metal and put through a heat and pressure cycle that turns the ink from a solid to a gas without becoming a liquid in between.
4.) because of the pressure the ink can only go into the specially coated metal where it is “locked” below the clear coat
5.) the metal is cooled quickly so the color stays fast
6.) the flat metal is stamped to round the corners and put the holes in
Troy was kind enough to send me a sample using one of my own images and I must say, the final piece is amazing! It has a great finish and a terrific feel! (I just have to figure out the best place to hang it!) I’ve heard of this process before using fabrics because we offer certain products at work using a sublimation process, but before Troy contacted me I’d never heard of it being used on metal for photos. It is a very unique way of displaying your photos.
So, long story short, the winner of the October contest will receive a free 16×20 sublimated piece of metal depicting one of their photos. So, be sure to enter your best work this month for your chance to win the awesome prize!

That’s right, September is quickly coming to a close and, along with it, so is my September Photo Contest!
I’ve already received 25 entries into this months contest but there is still time for you to submit your shots! We’re coming up on the end of June already and that means the deadline for my June Photo Contest is almost upon us! P&P Weekly: #112
Welcome to week #112 of The Photoshop & Photography Blogroll’s P&P Weekly!
Yes, it’s true! I’m back to publishing “The P&P Weekly” once again! It’s been a crazy few weeks around here with the developing saga of Kim and I buying our first house. On that front, all is going well – we got final approval of the mortgage yesterday - and we’re eager for the next month to go by quickly.
Based on some feedback from readers and to make things a little more manageable on my end as well, I have decided to make a few changes starting with next week’s P&P Weekly.
You will still find the complete listing of members of The Photoshop & Photography Blogroll on its own page so that readers can peruse what member bloggers have been posting at any time. Also, there will continue to be a recap of ongoing projects, as seen below.
However, the main difference will be in which blogs get featured each week. As it always has been, I will only feature blogs written by our membership but I will limit it to roughly 20 blogs a week and will only highlight posts that I think are exceptional and really catch my attention. If yours is not listed, please don’t take it as a snub, it’s never personal. I hope this will serve as a form of encouragement and challenge to all members to push themselves to produce better and better blog entries.
Finally, if you’ve been following me on Twitter (“JasonDMoore”) here are the details for our next new series!
With the close of Geographic Composition, I thought it would be good to develop a new project to take it’s regular slot in the blog lineup. Today I would like to announce the launch of a new series called Points of View.
On Fridays, alternating with the Workflow Fridays series, I will post a new, unprocessed photo for download. You will have a week and a half to process, manipulate, composite or otherwise alter the photo however you wish before emailing your version back to me by the Wednesday leading up to the next post for inclusion in the project. For example, I will post the first image this Monday. You will have to submit your entry by Wednesday April 8th to be a part of the April 10th posting. Make sense?
This is not a contest or competition. It’s simply a way of stretching our creative muscles and to get those juices flowing through experimentation and seeing how many different interpretations can be applied to the same starting photo. So go crazy with it. If there’s a technique you’ve always wanted to try, go for it! The only requirement is that you use the given image in some way as part of the final product.
If you’re interested, stop back on Monday to grab the first image and go to town! I think this has the potential to become a fun regular exercise to get our hands dirty and create!

A couple of notes about the shots: they’re just snapshots, I didn’t really take the time to do the job right or put in a lot of processing. The current owners were there and I didn’t want to take up too much of their time by being “the photographer”; it was more important to be the excited new buyer. Also, when you get to the shots of the first upstairs bedroom, let me assure you that the pink is NOT staying.
We’re counting down the days until closing and are eager to start painting and making this house our new home.
