Monday Morning Updates
Last night marked the end of our silent auction to support Chris Stern’s Walk4Hearing efforts. In the end, with the help of some awesome photographers, an amazing printing donation via Mpix, and the generous support of those who bid on the prints, we were able to raise a hair under $900 to benefit the Walk4Hearing! Thank you all!
Even though the auction is over, if you would still like to help Chris out, you can donate directly through his donation page.
I have settled on my three videos for the NAPP contest. I’m not going to divulge them until after the deadline so I can be sure they aren’t copied. I’ve finished the opening graphics sequences for all three videos, I’ve outlined the workflow for each and I’m ready to start recording and editing in the next week. Who knows what the outcome of the contest will be with so many excellent trainers out there, but I know that I’ll be able to come up with some great tutorials for three very interesting effects that will provide you with options when you want to look at your subjects in a new way.
Thank you to everyone who has filled out my Photoshop Workshop survey so far! If you haven’t taken it yet, scroll down to the previous post and let me know your thoughts. There are only 11 questions so it won’t take long. I know it’s pretty general but it’s only a starting point as I develop what could be a new series of workshops to help you get better at Photoshop. I will also have more opportunities coming up for you to share your ideas/preferences with me about workshops, so be on the lookout for those!
For those of you with today off for Columbus Day, I hope you’re enjoying your time! Snap a shot for me! And if you have to be at work today, don’t worry, I’m at the office too… We can suffer through it together!
September Photo Contest
Please forgive the lack of a contest in August. With all of the excitement surrounding the BIG Photo Contest and the cool prize from Mpix for the July Photo Contest, I thought it made sense to take the month off.

The winner this month will receive something from the Jason D. Moore Photography Apparel Store. The winner will have their choice of one of the following Jason D. Moore Photography Logo items:
- Women’s Light T-Shirt
- Light T-Shirt
- Ringer T
- Women’s T-Shirt
- White T-Shirt
- stein
- mug
- large mug
- or tote bag
Good Luck!
The Results Are In! July Photo Contest

Man, this month was a tough one! With the BIG Photo Contest only a couple of days away and so many great images in both – the most from any contest I’ve done to date, thanks! – I’ve had a difficult run of it this week as I’ve made my selections.
So, without further ado, the winner of a free 16×24 Gallery Wrap from Mpix is:
“under-pass-age” by googlit
Congratulations! Please forgive me for foregoing the critique on this one, it’s been a long week of going through images and there was a lot of thought that went into the entire process. Let me just say that I really enjoy the muted tones, the contrast, and the excellent textures throughout. For me, this is an example of HDR done really well. It’s not over the top. All around a great image.
As always, there were a number of shots that deserve mentioning because of their artfulness and the stories that they tell. In no particular order:
Nice work to everyone who submitted! Details about the August contest will be announced next week.
Final Day for the BIG Photo Contest
That’s right! It’s your last chance to enter your photos into the BIG Photo Contest! We have finally reached the end of the contest and it will soon be my difficult task to review your images and select the best collection of photos to win the $1000 prize package (from our exceedingly generous sponsors) to celebrate my 1,000th post!
Today is also the close of the July Photo Contest with the winner taking home a 16×24 Gallery Wrap from our friends over at Mpix.
So, if you haven’t done it yet, please send in your photos and keep your fingers crossed! The winners will be announced in the next week.
Good Luck!
Contest Reminders – The End Is Near!
Now that everyone is busy processing their photos from last weekend’s Worldwide Photowalk with hopes of winning their local walk’s prize and a shot at the grand prize, I’d like to take this opportunity to invite you to put forward those great shots for a chance to win more great prizes!
First, you can send in your shots for my regular monthly photo contest. Open to anyone, you can enter up to 3 images in the July Photo Contest Flickr Group by the end of the month. At the close of the contest I will select what I consider to be the best photo of the group and the winner will receive a free 16″x24″ gallery wrap from Mpix.
Secondly, there’s only a short time left to enter your series of shots into my 1,000th Post BIG Photo Contest. Once again, the deadline for submissions is July 31st with the winner announced on my 1,000th post in a couple of weeks. The winner will win a prize package worth over $1,000!

Once again, complete contest rules can be found on the “Contests” page.
I hope you will send in your work to be a part of one or both of these contests. And while you’re over on the Contests page, please be sure to check out what our sponsors have to offer. They each have some great products and services that every photographer can find useful.

Post #950! And the BIG Photo Contest!
I like to celebrate even the small milestones in life. And so it is today with my 950th blog post. I never want to forget all of the readers out there and those who have taken the time to comment and contribute to the life of the blog over the years. And a very special thank you to everyone who has been such a huge support by linking back, talking me up, sponsoring, guest posting, participating in projects, and just being great Friends-of-the-Blog. It really means a lot and you all have helped make this little corner of the web what it is, whatever role you play.
Thank You!
950 is a nice round number, and certainly a laudable goal in its own right, but it means that the next big milestone is a really big one. One that can’t be passed by with a casual mention on a single day. So, it’s not going to be…

I am excited to announce today that between now and July 31st I am putting out a call for entries into my Biggest Photo Contest yet!
Here’s how it’s going to work:
- Collect 5 of your own images that depict each of the following (in any order):
- Aged, Worn, or Old
- Travel or a Journey
- Part of a Whole
- Geometric
- Your Best/Favorite Shot Ever - These can be new images or photos from your archives, but they have to be YOURS (with the Worldwide Photowalk coming up you should be able to gather some really great images.)
- Images can be processed or otherwise manipulated as much or as little as you deem necessary.
- Submit your images by July 31st to The BIG Photo Contest Flickr Group with a note in the title or description about which category each image falls into.
- This is an open contest. Anyone can enter.
- The images will be judged as a group based on:
- Overall Artistry
- Originality
- Composition
- How well each image fits the categories - The winner will be announced in Post #1,000 which is scheduled to appear in early-mid August.
- The prize package is still in the works, but I can assure you that it will be bigger than any prize we’ve given away to date in any of our contests. Come back regularly for updates!

Now Available! Jason D. Moore Prints – 15% OFF
First off, I would like to express my excitement in the midst of today’s historic presidential inauguration! It is truly a momentous day for the United States which will have an impact felt around the world. I am encouraged by President Obama and for the first time in a long time I am inspired by our newly installed leader. May the change we face be an opportunity to be a source of hope, a source of justice, and a source of good will for our people and the world.

Today marks another “New for 2009″ offering here at Jason D. Moore Photography. As I wrote about last week in my call for sponsors, I am working towards turning my passions into my profession. One way has been to create community here at the blog through The Photoshop & Photography Blogroll and the various projects and series that have grown up which involve members of the larger world of digital imaging. Another way has been to seek partnerships that will help this blog grow and continue serving this community in new and exciting ways. The third way has been one of sharing. I work to bring others in to share their knowledge and skills with all of you, I produce my own video tutorials (which have, admittedly, been on the back burner since last year) to share my own creative process, and I share my personal photography.
It is this last area that is of particular relevance today. Starting today, I am offering my prints for sale! I have selected 52 of my favorite shots from the last 3 years for you to choose from – with more to be added periodically. Each photo is available in 20 different sizes from 5×7 all the way up to 24×36! Using the amazing printing serivces of Mpix you can be assured of the quality and value of each print that arrives at your door.
As an introductory offer, from now until the end of January, if you place your order using the coupon code below you can Save 15% OFF* your order! Great timing for Valentine’s Day gifts!
15OFFJAN09
So head on over to my gallery and take home some Jason D. Moore prints of your very own!
*To receive the special 15% Off rate, you must have a minimum order of $60 and must place your order before 11:59pm Eastern on January 31, 2009. Percent off does not include applicable tax or shipping charges.
