Jason D. Moore's Monthly Photo Contests

It’s that time again to announce the winner of our Monthly Photo Contest here at Jason D. Moore Photography! There were a lot of excellent photos entered this month and I have definitely seen some growth in the work coming from many of the regular submitters this time around. Nice work!

I have enlisted the help of the January winner, Chris Stern to help in the judging this month – as we will do from here on out with the winner serving as guest judge for the following month. Thank you Chris!

Don’t forget to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the post to see what’s in store for the March Photo Contest!

Photo Contest Update!

In speaking with Chris Stern, the winning photographer from the January Photo Contest, he asked if he could share the prize with one of the other photographers highlighted in yesterday’s post. He felt that there were so many awesome entries (and there were!) and that being chosen as the winner was a surprise and an honor in and of itself, and I should revisit the honorable mentions to select an additional winner to receive the physical prize for this month.

To honor Chris’ generous request, I have done just that! And so, the book goes to:

November Photo Contest Reminder

That’s right! We’re already over halfway through the month and the November Photo Contest only has a couple of weeks left!

Regulars will know that there is usually no theme for my monthly photo contests but this month I thought it would be fun to see what you could do with your camera phones (thanks to a suggestion from my friend, Illustrator Eric Maruscak). You can process the photos as much as you like, as always, but it should originate from a phone. (more…)

The Results Are In for the September Photo Contest!

Jason D. Moore Photography - Monthly Photo Contest

Wow! Every time I open up a new monthly photo contest I am amazed at the quality of shots that are shared. Thank you all for making me work so hard at making my selections every month! You amaze me and, more importantly, inspire me to get out there and shoot!

Now, before you scroll through the whole list of photos from this month’s contest, be sure to check down at the bottom for the link to the October contest group and to find out the AWESOME prize that is in store for the winner.

Without further ado, this month’s winner is:

pier 3 square

“pier 3 square” by M Greenbaum Photography

Marvin will be receiving a free item from my official Jason D. Moore Photography Apparel Store. Congratulations!

I was taken by this shot the first time I saw it. There are so many elements at work here that just come together and “make it” for me. First off, I like the square cropping. It makes it stand out and I like how it plays off of the repeating pattern of the supports for the pier. I like the play between contrasts here: cool vs. warm colors, solid vs. fluid, sharp focus vs. blur, angular vs. the organic nature of the clouds and surf. I like how the shot isn’t just of something pretty, it communicates something through the contrasts, through the fact that the structure is aged and weathered. It says something. Nicely done!

As always, there were a number of shots that are certainly worth noting here and are each amazing in their own right:

Waves In Plaster

Son's Senior Pic

Birthday Flower

A Simpler Time

Lonely Dinghy - (29/100)

Texture

Lucchetto - Padlock

Thank you all for entering and for sharing your terrific work with all of us.

The October 2009 Photo Contest is now open! As always, you have until the 31st at midnight (Eastern) to submit up to 3 photos for the prize. And boy do we have a good one this month! Troy Breidenbach (the photographer who shot the football player image above) is the president of a company called IGT America that uses a really cool technology to “print” images onto metal to make signs, dry erase boards, etc.

Troy and one of his graphics guys are avid photographers and they thought it would be fun to try transferring their skills at making signs towards their own work, and the results are fantastic! The process is called “sublimation” and here’s what they do:

1.)  we get your image electronically and make sure the color space matches our profile (and convert it if not)
2.)  the image is printed on 64” ink jet printers with a special ink and paper
the paper allows the ink to be “transferred” to the metal later
3.)  the paper is married to the metal and put through a heat and pressure cycle that turns the ink from a solid to a gas without becoming a liquid in between.
4.)  because of the pressure the ink can only go into the specially coated metal where it is “locked” below the clear coat
5.)  the metal is cooled quickly so the color stays fast
6.)  the flat metal is stamped to round the corners and put the holes in

Troy was kind enough to send me a sample using one of my own images and I must say, the final piece is amazing! It has a great finish and a terrific feel! (I just have to figure out the best place to hang it!) I’ve heard of this process before using fabrics because we offer certain products at work using a sublimation process, but before Troy contacted me I’d never heard of it being used on metal for photos. It is a very unique way of displaying your photos.

So, long story short, the winner of the October contest will receive a free 16×20 sublimated piece of metal depicting one of their photos. So, be sure to enter your best work this month for your chance to win the awesome prize!

And another HUGE thanks to Troy and his team for donating this very cool piece for our winner!

September Photo Contest Reminder

That’s right, September is quickly coming to a close and, along with it, so is my September Photo Contest!

I’ve already received 25 entries into this months contest but there is still time for you to submit your shots! The winner of this particular monthly photo contest will have their choice of either a Women’s Light T-Shirt, Light T-Shirt, Ringer T, Women’s T-Shirt, or White T-Shirt OR your choice of a stein, mug, large mug, or tote bag from my official Jason D. Moore Photography Apparel Store.

To enter, simply submit up to 3 photos to our Photo Contest Flickr Group by midnight (Eastern) on Wednesday September 30th.

If you’re not entering the contest but would still like to sport your very own Jason D. Moore Photography tee or drink your morning coffee out of an official Jason D. Moore Photography mug, stop on over to the store and get yours today!

Also, I received a sample in the mail the other day of what will be a prize for one of our upcoming contests, perhaps next month. I don’t want to give it away but it is something I had never really thought of before but have since seen similar concepts popping up all over. It’s very unique and the results are fantastic! A huge thanks to one of my readers, Troy B., for sharing this idea with me and donating the prize!

More on that one later. For now, enter the September Photo Contest!

Wonders of Life – Flickr Photo Contest

Want a chance to win a Canon T1i?

I was contacted recently about a photo contest sponsored by the LIFE Foundation – a non-profit that works to educate people about making smart decisions in order to safeguard their families’ financial futures. They don’t endorse any product or company, they only seek to help people make educated decisions to protect their loved ones.

The purpose of the competition is to get Americans thinking about life insurance and how it can help preserve life’s wondrous moments. Submit one digital photo that captures a wondrous moment in the life of your family—one that conveys true peace, joy and meaning.

Enter and you may be able to capture other wondrous moments with a new Canon T1i, 12.2-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera—the top prize in the Wonders of Life Photo Contest. The camera is an $800 value! Entering is easy. During September 2009, upload your best digital image to the “Wonders of Life” Group at the photo-sharing website Flickr.com.

In addition to the Grand Prize, a panel of judges will select five Runners-up, with each receiving a $150 gift card to Bestbuy.com. Winners will be announced on or about November 1, 2009. Winning photos will be featured on the LIFE website.

Send in your photos in by the end of the month for your chance to win!

Jason D. Moore Photography - 1000th Post BIG Photo Contest

First of all, I want to thank everyone who entered the contest to help celebrate my 1,000th blog post. Without the support and encouragement from you, my readers, and especially those of you who take a more active role in my contests, projects and ongoing conversations I wouldn’t have been able to make it this far. You make it all worth it! Thank You!

Secondly, I’d like to thank all of my sponsors who have donated prizes for all of our winners! I appreciate your tremendous generosity and willingness to support my little corner of the photoblogosphere. Thank You!

It was a very difficult process judging the contest because of the large number of great shots submitted. There are some amazing photographers out there and I wish I could award more prizes!

I based my selections on the collection of images by each photographer as a group and hpw each individual shot represented its category. I don’t want you to think that if you didn’t win any of the prizes that it is any judgement about your photography. I saw great work from each and every entrant and admire the quality and vision shared by you all.

We’re Almost There!

Welcome to post #999!

That’s right, tomorrow will mark my 1,000th post and the conclusion of the BIG Photo Contest that’s been running to help celebrate that milestone.

Last night I had the great pleasure to finally meet my long-time friend and fellow photoblogger Rob Jones of Towner Jones Photography in person. He’s been in Syracuse this week for his day job and swung down to our house for a visit. It was fun getting to know in-person someone I’ve exchanged so many emails with over the past couple of years, now. I’ve always had a great deal of respect for Rob and what he’s been doing over on his blog and have really enjoyed seeing the growth he’s experienced, especially the past few months with the success of the Photowalk shirts.

As he and I had suspected prior to our meeting, we’re very much on the same wavelength both with our blogs and our goals and visions for the future and it’s refreshing to know someone who shares those dreams. One of the things that really drives us both and is starting to manifest itself in interesting and exciting ways is the philosophy of giving back. While that means supporting causes and efforts that are meaningful, it also means paying forward the generosity that we’ve been shown by others within this great Photoshop & Photography Community. We kept coming back to that idea time and again as the foundation of why we do what we do and lays the groundwork for our future endeavors.

It was a fun evening with some great stories and I’m really excited about what we’ve been able to forge. So, thanks Rob for coming by and I look forward to doing it again!

The Results Are In! July Photo Contest

Jason D. Moore Photography - Monthly Photo Contest

Man, this month was a tough one! With the BIG Photo Contest only a couple of days away and so many great images in both – the most from any contest I’ve done to date, thanks! – I’ve had a difficult run of it this week as I’ve made my selections.

So, without further ado, the winner of a free 16×24 Gallery Wrap from Mpix is:

under-pass-age

“under-pass-age” by googlit

Congratulations! Please forgive me for foregoing the critique on this one, it’s been a long week of going through images and there was a lot of thought that went into the entire process. Let me just say that I really enjoy the muted tones, the contrast, and the excellent textures throughout. For me, this is an example of HDR done really well. It’s not over the top. All around a great image.

As always, there were a number of shots that deserve mentioning because of their artfulness and the stories that they tell. In no particular order:

Mouse 2

06.28.09 - Day 178

Chicago Field Museum

Rink Rat

Rockland Breakwater Light

evergreendana-2

Girl watching sunset

Nice work to everyone who submitted! Details about the August contest will be announced next week.

Jason D. Moore Photography - 1000th Post BIG Photo Contest

That’s right! It’s your last chance to enter your photos into the BIG Photo Contest! We have finally reached the end of the contest and it will soon be my difficult task to review your images and select the best collection of photos to win the $1000 prize package (from our exceedingly generous sponsors) to celebrate my 1,000th post!

Today is also the close of the July Photo Contest with the winner taking home a 16×24 Gallery Wrap from our friends over at Mpix.

So, if you haven’t done it yet, please send in your photos and keep your fingers crossed! The winners will be announced in the next week.

Good Luck!

One More from the Photowalk, BIG Photo Contest Deadline Coming!

Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photowalk - Cazenovia, NY

That’s right! This Friday, July 31st,  marks the end of my 1000th Post BIG Photo Contest and the process will begin to select our winners! This post right here is post 991, which means that the winners will be announced next Friday, August 7th.

There’s still time to throw your hat into the ring for your chance to win and be a part of the celebration for reaching this blogging milestone – which, by the way, takes place in the same month as my online anniversary – so there are big things happening all around.

Also, don’t forget to submit your photos into the July Photo Contest, also closing on Friday.

Good Luck!

The shot above was taken during Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photowalk – Cazenovia, NY.

Contest Reminders – The End Is Near!

Jason D. Moore Photography - 1000th Post BIG Photo Contest

Now that everyone is busy processing their photos from last weekend’s Worldwide Photowalk with hopes of winning their local walk’s prize and a shot at the grand prize, I’d like to take this opportunity to invite you to put forward those great shots for a chance to win more great prizes!

First, you can send in your shots for my regular monthly photo contest. Open to anyone, you can enter up to 3 images in the July Photo Contest Flickr Group by the end of the month. At the close of the contest I will select what I consider to be the best photo of the group and the winner will receive a free 16″x24″ gallery wrap from Mpix.

Secondly, there’s only a short time left to enter your series of shots into my 1,000th Post BIG Photo Contest. Once again, the deadline for submissions is July 31st with the winner announced on my 1,000th post in a couple of weeks. The winner will win a prize package worth over $1,000!

Complete contest details, for both the Monthly Photo Contest and the BIG Photo Contest can be found on the photo contest page.

Good Luck!

Home Stretch for Photo Contests

Jason D. Moore Photography - 1000th Post BIG Photo Contest

We’re coming up on the home stretch for two Photo Contests ending this month. First, the July Photo Contest is well under way with a pretty awesome prize in the form of a 16″x24″ gallery wrap, generously donated by our friends over at Mpix – a $100 value! Thanks guys!

Next, and even more exciting, is the BIG Photo Contest, now in its final weeks. Celebrating my upcoming 1,000th post you are invited to submit a collection of 5 photos, each fitting into one of five categories, to be judged as a series for a chance at over $1,000 in prizes from our sponsors.

Both of these photography contests are timed quite nicely to end after you have a chance to participate in the Worldwide Photowalk on the 18th. That way you will be able to really get out there and shoot before submitting your images for either or both of the contests. Full details can be found on our photo contest page.

And, while I’m at it, speaking of the photowalk there is still room in the Cazenovia Photowalk that I will be leading. So, if you are in Upstate NY and have yet to sign up, please join us for a fun afternoon of photography.

Good Luck!

Graduation Photo

Sarah's High School Graduation

Last weekend we celebrated with my sister-in-law, Sarah, as she graduated from high school. I’m still working on processing the shots but thought I would share this one from the day – note: like I said in Monday’s post, I’m not a portrait photographer but even more so, I’m not an event photographer.

With tomorrow’s post I will announce the winner of the June Photo Contest and let you know how you can enter to win a really cool prize for the July Photo Contest!
