The Ethics of Digital Photography: Part 1
Before I jump into today’s post, I want to extend my thanks to guest blogger Jessica Sweeney for her contribution yesterday! Thank you, Jessica, for offering a challenge to us all with the first guest post of the year. Sometimes we just need to stop thinking too much and just get out there and shoot! I think there’s something we can all take away from that!
I’ll be having one of my guest bloggers share a post with you all every other Monday – give or take – throughout the year until they revolt and tell me they can’t take it anymore! Look for a post by Kevin Halliburton on Monday the 25th!
Now, on to the content…
We’re Having a Boy!
Today, Kim and I found out that we are 20 weeks and 5 days along as we prepare for the arrival of our son Liam in April! The ultrasound showed good development of all of his organs and we heard another strong heartbeat as he squirmed around trying to hide from the tech.
We were both, honestly, not hoping for a boy or a girl specifically, just for a healthy baby. We are so excited for this new little guy to come out and see us, even though he’s already been a member of the family for a few months now. I really can’t wait but I’ll settle for being able to feel him kicking soon.
December 2009 Desktop Wallpaper Calendar

Each month I publish a new photographic desktop wallpaper featuring one of my photos as well as a custom calendar with holidays and other important dates listed. The image for the December 2009 Desktop Calendar was taken looking up from beneath the Eiffel Tower in Paris during the summer of 2008. I have to credit my amazing wife, Kim, for the idea.

Thank You!

Each month I publish a new photographic desktop wallpaper featuring one of my photos as well as a custom calendar with holidays and other important dates listed. The images for the November 2009 Desktop Calendar were taken in Ithaca, NY during a photowalk I led there back in April. These were the last shots of the day, and we just happened upon the bike. They’re my favorites from the day.

Each month I will publish a new photographic desktop wallpaper featuring one of my photos as well as a custom calendar with holidays and other important dates listed. “Ask Jason” Reminders and a New Regular Column
First off, I’d like to remind you that I am still accepting your submissions for photo reviews wherein you send me one of your photos (800px on the longest side) and I will look at it and write up my thoughts here on the blog. Just if you’ve read any of my other photo reviews you will know that I try to bring out all of the positive aspects of your shot while also pointing out what I would do differently or what you might consider doing for future images.
I have found that it can be a great learning experience and a chance to get your images out in front of a new audience as well. However, if you are nervous about using your name, just ask and I’ll make sure it is listed as anonymous. So send in your photos today!
Now that one project is over it’s time for another one to begin! Starting today, use the “Contact” button up at the top to send me Photoshop-related questions that you would like to know more about and each week I will answer them here on the blog. Whether it’s a question about technique, composition, shortcuts, or whatever! So start sending me your questions and see them answered right here in the coming days!
Jason D. Moore Photography Logo Apparel
Fear not, the results for the photo contests are coming soon and I’m having a great time reviewing all of the excellent submissions!
I’d like to announce today that I have opened a Cafe Press store featuring a wide range of Jason D. Moore Photography logo apparel & gifts. There is a variety of items available – including a wide selection of t-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, magnets & stickers, and a tote bag – and there’s something for every price range and style.
Show your support for the blog and shop today!
If you purchase anything from the store, be sure to send in a photo of you wearing/using your shirt/mug/tote/etc. and I’ll post it here on the site. So, shop now!
Also, as a side note – and totally unrelated to this – I have decided to discontinue the “On the 4th” Photo Project. It hasn’t caught on as much as we all would have hoped. A huge thank you and “nice job” to everyone who has participated over the past few months! I’d like to encourage you – and everyone out there – to join us in the Points of View Photo Project with the next edition coming up next week!
March 14, 2005
I am about to take a step I have never taken before. I have been in foreign countries before and I have even spent some time alone in some of them. I’ve flown cross-country by myself and I’ve lived on my own quite successfully for some time now. But today, while similar, is quite different.
Once again, two and a half years later, I am in the Syracuse airport waiting for a flight that will lead me to a far away place, a place to which I have never been. Semester at Sea took me around the world to twelve different countries, and it was awesome. In many ways, that trip defined my life. While I feel the excitement and anticipation of travel abroad, there’s something else there today, something significant.
I am on my way to London and Northern Ireland for a week of vacation, history, and escape from my day-to-day life. In the 4-5 months that I’ve been planning this trip I’ve felt quite excited and anxious to go. Now, I’m glad to be here and on my way but there is a touch of anxiety that I’m traveling with. I’m alone. It’s not related, directly, with my singleness but I’m somewhat nervous to travel by myself. There’s freedom and flexibility with it but there is no one to lean on, no one to share this adventure with.
For the next week, I am totally independant and on my own in a way I’ve never been before now. It’s exciting, it really is. As uneasy as I may feel because of the newness of the experience, I am filled with this deeper sense of meaning and purpose. And I’m not sure what it is. I was talking with a friend of mine yesterday and she shared with me that she had the same feeling about this, that it is going to be a very special time for me and filled with amazing things.
Visiting the place where my family comes from as well as spending time in a world-class city are going to be a part of the wide range of experiences I’ll have and will bring a depth to my time that I cannot yet perceive. Something wonderful is about to happen…
Enroute to South Africa
Kenya was amazing! I absolutely loved it and I will definitely try my best to go back some day. My safari was wonderful. We had two days of game drives and saw tons of animals and beautiful countryside at Tsavo East. The night before I left to go on the safari I watched “The Ghost and the Darkness” which is set in Tsavo. I thought the man-eating lions were an appropriate subject for pre-safari entertainment. Unfortunately, I didn’t see any lions or rhinos or hippos but I saw tons of elephants and gazelles and giraffes and many others. It was really cool!
I can’t think of much else to say at this point. Today is my one real day off until the Ambassador’s Ball after S. Africa. While everyone is competing in the Sea Olympics today, I’m watching movies and hanging out with friends and basically just enjoying myself. I’ve shut my brain off for the day and so, I have nothing else to report for now. I’ll update you all again after Cape Town on my adventures there!
